The Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic
By the NR SR Act No. 3/1993 Coll. on the Establishment of the SR Army as amended, to 1 January 1993 the SR Army was established and its command and control bodies were formed.
The NR SR Act No. 321/2002 on the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic modified from 1 July 2002 the position of basic components of the SR Armed Forces as a decisive executive element of the Republic defence system, theirs tasks, use, command, control, inspection, mobilisation and preparation.
- To guarantee
- Defence of the Slovak Republic a security of the State before external armed attack by foreign power,
- Fulfilment of commitments resulting from international treaties binding for the Slovak Republic,
- To participate in
- Maintenance of public order and security of the State,
- Maintenance of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of the SR borders.
A mission and duty of the Armed Forces is to be involved in fulfilment of tasks in crisis or emergency when lives and health of people or property are threatened and by disaster relief.
Within the provision of humanitarian aid and within military exercises the Armed Forces fulfil tasks also outside the Slovak Republic territory if it results from the international treaty commitments binding for the SR. They fulfil tasks in UN, OSCE and EU peace observation missions and tasks of military missions of international organisations.
- Protection of the SR state border,
- Protection and defence of constructions and buildings defined by the SR Government decision as facilities of special importance or other facilities important for State defence,
- Disaster relief after crisis of emergency and for the solution of extraordinary events,
- Struggle against terrorism,
- Search for aircraft and rescue of human lives,
- Ensuring the air traffic of officials appointed by the Government,
- Ensuring the air medical transport.
