Bernolákovo-based school to educate and train students also for armed forces

Today (2 September 2019), Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš attended the First Day of School – 2019/2020 Academic Year Opening Ceremony at the J. A. Gagarin Agrotechnical Secondary School in Bernolákovo, as the school takes on a new programme of study – Personal and Property Protection. This comes as a result of the collaboration between the SVK Armed Forces and the local secondary school to make the school graduates employable in armed forces and security agencies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “At present, there is no secondary military school in Slovakia. Yet, thanks to this successful cooperation, I am so pleased that 59 students can now pursue this programme of study which will enable them to join the Armed Forces or other security agencies.”

Director of the Agrotechnical Secondary School in Bernolákovo Mrs Katarína Kubišová expressed her thanks to the MOD for cooperation and explained: “This programme of study will begin with specialist security subjects and specialist physical training. The graduates will have acquired the basics of criminology, security laws, and of other subjects associated with personal and property protection.”

The new Personal and Property Protection study programme delivers both theoretical and specialist education and training, wherein students will develop self-defence skills and basic combat skills and will undertake first aid, military drill movements, and specialist security training. In addition, they will focus on economy, law, criminology, cynology, psychology, and social communication. Specialist training will be conducted in real and simulated conditions. The school has its own firing range.

On receiving their secondary school diploma, the graduates of this four-year study programme will qualify for their studies at the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš or they can enlist into the Armed Forces where they will be able to take up some appointments across the Army, Military Police, and the Logistic Corps.
