Children's Day with the Armed Forces

Dynamic close combat demonstrations, service dogs training, honor guard show, static demonstrations of fighting equipment and much more were part of the Children’s Day with the Armed Forces, which took place in Giraltovce last Saturday. The soldiers gave live demonstrations of mine cleaning, a combat vehicle in action and flyover of helicopters with parachute units.

The soldiers are here to defend liberty, to help citizens in need and, above all, to let the children enjoy the day in Giraltovce,’ said the Chief of the General Staff of the SR Lieutenant General Peter Vojtek.

The Armed Forces commemorate their 20th anniversary. Visitors to Giraltovce could learn about the history, the changes and the development the Slovak Army has gone through. Besides the extensive program, the signing of autographs by the famous Dukla Bystrica sportsmen, bodybuilders Jana Purdjaková, Igor Kočiš and the athlete Jana Velďáková, was prepared for the children. The performance of the band named Komajota or Dominika Mirgová could not be missing at the event. The children from the social service centers from five nearby towns and villages, the visitors from the four twin towns to Giraltovce from Poland and Ukraine, as well as the people from the north-eastern Slovakia enjoyed the performance.

On the occasion of the Children's Day, the soldiers at Sliač and Kuchyňa airports or at the training battalion in Martin also prepared an event for the children.
