The V4 EU Battlegroup will be on standby again from Monday, 1 July 2019. The Slovak Republic has made available 229 members of the SVK Armed Forces to cater for the needs of the V4 EU BG. Its standby period will last until 31 December 2019.

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: "The V4 EU Battlegroup is designed to perform a wide spectrum of tasks as part of international crisis management within a range of 6,000km from Brussels. In this way, too, the Slovak Republic participates in resolving international security issues.” He noted that the V4 EU BG is comprised of 2,250 personnel from participating countries.  “Their readiness was validated during the COMMON CHALLENGE 19 certification exercise, which was held in May 2019 in the Republic of Poland,” he added. He further emphasised that this is about taking on a standby role and any real deployment still needs the consent of the Slovak Parliament in accordance with applicable legislation.

As part of the V4 EU BG, SVK Armed Forces personnel and military policemen will be posted to the Command Element, Transport Company, Multifunctional CBRN Defence Platoon, EOD Platoon, Movement Control Team, and to other elements of the Battlegroup.

If a political decision is made to deploy the V4 EU BG, the Battlegroup is ready to commit its troops to the area of deployment within 10 days of notice, so that they can undertake assigned tasks. The Battlegroup can be sustained for 30 days and, after resupply, up to 120 days from the day of deployment.

The V4 EU BG Operational HQ will be based in Krakow. The Republic of Poland is the lead nation of the V4 EU BG, while at the same time being responsible for communication and information systems, intelligence and MP. The Czech Republic has responsibility for logistics and military medicine, while Hungary is in charge of engineering and non-combat capabilities. Based on mutual consent, Croatia, too, will join the V4 EU BG for the standby period.
