P. Gajdoš: Ex COOPSEC 2019 confirms our soldiers are team players ready to cooperate in international environment

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš visited SVK troops taking part in Ex COOPSEC 2019, a Central European Defence Cooperation (CEDC) exercise, on Ujmajor Training Area in Hungary today (17 Oct 2019). On this occasion, he praised the strong points of the international exercise and underlined the significance of this cooperation in terms of seeking joint solutions to crisis situations. He also thanked service members for representing the Slovak Armed Forces and Slovakia in an exemplary manner.

Speaking during the Distinguished Visitors Day, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “The exercise tested the readiness of our service members and their CEDC colleagues to cooperate together in an international environment as they resolved crisis situations that may occur during migration flows. I am convinced they took on the role in a responsible manner and confirmed to be team players” He added that the training audience is comprised of members of the Border and Foreign Police Office, Presidium of the SVK Police Corps. He continued: “This, too, attests to the fact that the Defence and Interior Ministries are capable of cooperating together effectively even in an international environment.”

Commenting on the Slovak exercising unit, Unit Commander Lt Col Juraj Bób said: “Some of our troops were involved in a Command Post Exercise (CPE), where they practised communications and aligned their procedures for containing a refugee crisis in model situations. The CIMIC Tactical Team demonstrated its negotiation capabilities and the Transport Platoon confirmed its ability to cooperate on international patrols.”

Czech Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar emphasised that exercises of this type are much needed, he said: “As the numbers of refugees are still very high, there is a need to rehearse the capabilities of the CEDC armed forces, police and integrated rescue services just in the way we have seen today.”

The aim of Ex COOPSEC 2019 was to strengthen political and military cooperation among the partner countries of the Central European Defence Cooperation (CEDC). A total of 417 soldiers from the CEDC countries, including 33 SVK service members and 3 policemen from the SVK Ministry of Interior – Border and Foreign Police Office (Presidium of the SVK Police Corps) along with their assets, took part in the exercise from 14 to 17 October 2019.
