Commemorative stones installed to mark the start and end of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Heroes Trail

The Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Heroes Trail – the main hiking & heritage trail across Slovakia which commemorates and pays tribute to the battles of the Slovak National Uprising in WW2 – will be marked at its start and end by two commemorative stones. They have now been installed at the Dukla Pass and in Bratislava’s Devín district, North East and West Slovakia.

The Ministry of Defence has supported this project of the Slovak Hikers Club with a grant of €12,000. What's more, the Slovak Armed Forces transported the stones to the sites and helped with their installation. Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď attended today's unveiling ceremony for one of the two over a tonne heavy commemorative stones in Devín.

In his statement, Jaroslav Naď said: “The Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Heroes Trail connects two key elements of the Slovak identity – the Slovak National Uprising on the one hand and our unique mountains on the other. I believe this bond will inspire many of you to take on a hiking challenge, with respect for and understanding of this key Slovak history milestone.”
