On completion of their Initial Military Training (IMT), today 125 new Officer Cadets (OCs) arrived for a Matriculation Welcome Ceremony at the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy (AOS) Liptovský Mikuláš, and have now started their first year of cadetship as they take up their Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) degree studies.

In this 2022/2023 academic year at AOS, a total of 339 Officer Cadets will be specialising in the Academy's study programmes as follows: Security and the Defence of the State; Electronic Weapons Systems; Military Signals and Information Systems; and Weapons Systems, Weapons and their Components. Alongside their military academic study, they will be trained in military skills through the AOS Military Programme.

What's more, this academic year at Liptovský Mikuláš will also see 140 Officer Cadets pursuing studies for Master of Engineering (MEng) and Magister (Mgr) degrees, plus 59 Officer Cadets undertaking their doctoral studies, with four of them on a full-time PhD programme as a novelty.

In addition, based on a cooperation agreement between AOS and the Technical University of Košice (TUKE), 11 Air Cadets have begun the first year of their Slovak Air Force Cadetship at TUKE's Aviation Faculty.

Further, in accordance with an agreement between the CZE and SVK MODs enabling Slovak military personnel to study at the Faculty of Military Medicine of the University of Defence in Brno, another 9 Officer Cadets have entered into their first year of Medical Officer Cadetship at the Faculty of Military Medicine in Hradec Králové.

On 26 September 2022, they signed the Matriculation Registration Form as a formal admission of new first-year OCs to the Universities.

In his congratulatory speech after the handover of the Certificates of Matriculation to the Officer Cadets, AOS Commandant Assoc Prof Jozef Puttera urged the OCs to hold themselves to high standards of responsibility in their role, to take advantage of the helping hand offered to them by their instructors, and to not hesitate to raise questions and ask for clarifications.

Commandant of the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy Assoc Prof Jozef Puttera said: “I call on you to help and support each other. Keep building relationships on the basis of willingness to help each other, knowing that while you develop knowledge and abilities, you can also forge relationships that will last for the rest of your lives.”

Sending his best wishes to the latest intake of Officer Cadets, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “AOS stands for years-proven military education and provides Officer Cadre reinforcements to our Armed Forces. I wish all Officer Cadets a lot of strength and every success on their path for careers of professional service to their country as officers.”

The General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy (AOS) Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia's only military tertiary education establishment, will mark 50 years of its existence in the Liptov region next year.
