Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď: Ukraine will fight to win back its freedom, with our contribution too

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď joined a virtual meeting with counterparts from the U.S.-led Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) today. The UDCG met in Defence Ministers format to address the latest developments and efforts needed to keep up the momentum on the battlefield in Ukraine. Also discussed were the progress being made in training and preparing Ukrainian armed forces and the initiatives to support the national defence industrial bases in the interests of strengthening Ukraine's defences.

Speaking virtually at the U.S.-led UDCG meeting, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Inside them, the Ukrainians have strong determination about bringing peace and reconciliation back to their country. We will continue to help them to do so by providing them with our material, humanitarian and military assistance, since supporting the right to defend a sovereign and free Ukraine is an expression of the values shared by the international community, of which we form a part.” He continued: “The reverses of the past few weeks that have seen several occupied places liberated have shown how very wrong everyone who would, just a few month ago, say there was no sense in helping Ukraine was. Ukraine will fight to win back its freedom, with our contribution too.”

The U.S.-led Ukraine Defence Contact Group was set up as Defence leaders from over 40 nations first met to discuss international support for Ukraine at Germany's Ramstein Air Base on 26 April 2022. Ever since, the UDCG has met on a regular basis. Today marked the seventh such meeting in this format.
