The key themes of the Bucharest Nine (B9) Defence Ministers' meeting in Warsaw will be the security situation in the region amidst the Ukraine war, NATO and EU support for Ukraine, and the ongoing processes and arrangements to strengthen NATO's eastern flank.
Ahead of the meeting, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Along with partners from the Bucharest Nine (B9), we will be looking at additional effective and sustainable solutions to bolster the Alliance’s defence and deterrence posture on the eastern flank. I look forward to having a constructive discussion, I believe it will bring meaningful conclusions again once more.”
The other topics likely to be covered include the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius and the views of the B9 Defence Ministers on the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), which frames coordinative and cooperative efforts in the field of defence and crisis management.
Members of the B9 are Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. Also in attendance at today's B9 Defence Ministerial will be UK Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace.
