Ožďany-based Radar Surveillance Company is getting ready for a new 3D Air Defence (AD) radar system

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď today paid a visit to members of 3 Radar Surveillance Company Ožďany – this forms part of the system securing the inviolability of SVK airspace and NATO member states' collective security and defence under the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS). The unit will operate a new reliable state-of-the-art 3D Air Defence (AD) radar system in the near future.

In a statement, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The tasks of safeguarding SVK airspace are performed continuously on a 24/7 basis and their importance needs no emphasising. There is a real necessity for the introduction of new radars into service, which is why I am immensely pleased that they are soon going to become a reality. They will be serving the needs of the Slovak Armed Forces for at least 20 years.”

During his visit to the radar facility, the head of the MOD was briefed on the Company's history and organisational structure as well as on the state of its personnel, training, certification, logistics, and planned short term investments. He was particularly interested in seeing how the unit was getting ready for the arrival of the new 3D AD radar system.

To provide the Recognised Air Picture (RAP) all over Slovakia, there are six Radar Surveillance Companies located across Slovakia. Their primary role is to detect, identify and monitor all airborne objects and relay this information to the command and control (C2) system.

3 Radar Surveillance Company is divided into two elements – the combat element based at the village of Ožďany and the rear element based in the town of Rimavská Sobota. Minister Naď visited both elements. While in Rimavská Sobota, he inspected the progress made in defence infrastructure maintenance and modernisation, including the repairs of roofs and toilet facilities and the construction of a new fence and a refuelling point.
