State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Defence Marian Majer hosted his counterparts for a Visegrad Four (V4) "Senior Body" meeting at Sliač Air Base and the Training Centre Lešť in Slovakia. The successive rounds of discussions focused on the modernisation programmes in the countries, the situation in Ukraine, and NATO's visions at the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, especially higher defence spending and the strengthening of NATO's Command Structure (NCS) on its eastern flank.
Speaking about V4 air forces safeguarding SVK airspace, State Secretary Marian Majer said: “To our allies from the Czech Republic and Poland, we owe our thanks for protecting our skies. Hungary is soon to join this initiative after signing respective documents. With this project, the V4’s practical cooperation will assume new dynamics and underline the importance of cooperation and cohesion between our countries.”
As part of the official programme, State Secretary Marian Majer along with State Secretary of the Czech Ministry of Defence Daniel Blažkovec, State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Defence Gábor Gion, and Director of the International Security Policy Department at the Polish Ministry of National Defence Piotr Pacholski paid a visit to Sliač AB to see the NATO MN BG SVK's Air Component, which is made up of German and Dutch air defenders operating the Patriot air defence systems, before heading to the Training Centre Lešť to receive a tour of the NATO MN BG SVK's Land Component, involving U.S., Czech, German, Slovenian and Slovak Army service members, where they viewed a live-action demonstration and a static display of the participating nations' capabilities.
