Defence Minister Martin Sklenár along with Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer and Secretary General of the MOD Service Office Peter Kozák paid a visit to 41 Supply Base Nemšová. They were interested in the Base's personnel fill rates, the progress of tasks performed under its responsibility, and the state of defence infrastructure which needs further investments.
Minister Sklenár underlined that 41 Supply Base Nemšová is a great asset to both the Armed Forces and our NATO Allies and that its importance will grow further, saying: “Our logisticians are doing a great job in distributing supplies, making sure that everyone can get what they need. We will continue to create the space for projects to improve Service conditions for regular soldiers. I am convinced that they can already feel the positive trend in logistics services. We will keep working on developing and strengthening this area into the future.”
He announced a tenfold increase in repair & maintenance spend at the base, totalling €300,000 this year, to include replacing windows in offices, warehouses and workshops, repairing electrical wiring and fittings, and servicing cargo lifts. In addition, upgrade projects, worth some €3m, are now under way to install new water pipes and to insulate a building at the base.
41 Supply Base Nemšová is a logistics base with a central issue facility (CIF), providing all classes of supply to the Slovak Armed Forces. Among its core tasks are the acquisition, storage, movement and distribution of supplies. The history of the base goes back to the pre-WWII era when military warehouses and buildings were built at the local barracks.
