Minister Sklenár meets Slovenian Ambassador Raščan: “Slovenia is an important NATO Ally for us”

Defence Minister Martin Sklenár received the Slovenian Ambassador to Slovakia, His Excellency Stanislav Raščan at the Defence Ministry today. The review of the nations' bilateral defence cooperation and the presentation of the MOD leadership and the SVK government's defence policy priorities were the central focus of their conversation.

Referring to the Slovenian Contingent (SVNCON) as part of NATO's presence in Slovakia, Defence Minister Martin Sklenár said: “The meeting gave us an opportunity to take stock of the current security and political situation. In this respect, strengthening national security is our priority, including through the NATO Multinational Battlegroup operating in Slovakia. In addition, continued assistance to war-torn Ukraine is key to us. Even on these topics of common interest, we, in the long run, perceive Slovenia as an important Ally on whom we can count.”

Minister Sklenár congratulated Ambassador Raščan on Slovenia being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to represent the Eastern European Group (EEG) for two years, starting from January 2024. In their conversation, they also addressed the priorities ahead of the upcoming NATO Vilnius Summit, reviewed the programme of military training and education, and looked at ways to intensify SVK-SVN defence industrial cooperation.
