Armed Forces personnel are to receive an average 5% pay rise, starting from 1 September 2023

For their service to the country, Armed Forces personnel will see a salary boost. Based on the updated Armed Forces Pay Review Guidance, Service personnel are to receive an average 5% pay rise, starting from 1 September 2023. The MOD has adopted this measure to stabilise the levels of military personnel and to sustain the competitiveness of military roles on the job market.

After the salary indexation of 7% with effect from 1 January 2023, this comes as MOD's another measure to mitigate the negative impact of inflation and price growth.

Sharing his thoughts on the Forces pay increase, Defence Minister Martin Sklenár emphasised: “We believe that our military personnelʼs service to the country in delivering the security and defence of the state is exemplary and responsible, even in this difficult security situation.”

Defence Minister Sklenár reminded that the Armed Forces are a stable pillar of the state in crisis situations and are always ready to help our citizens, saying: “Our service personnel – trained and ready to deploy in support of Slovakia and its people – are always here and with no exceptions. Therefore, it is in our interest to give them adequate remuneration for service and to create a stable working environment, as the defence budget allows.”

The latest Forces pay increase will be covered from the MOD budget, meaning that it will have no negative impact on other public administration budgets.
