NATO EOD COE Trenčín welcomes new director as Col Róbert Császár hands over command to Col František Mihalovič

The NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre of Excellence (NATO EOD COE) Trenčín held a change of command ceremony at the Trenčín Garrison Club on 31 August 2023. During the ceremony, Col Róbert Császár handed over command of NATO EOD COE Trenčín to Col František Mihalovič.

Defence Minister Martin Sklenár was present as a keynote speaker at the ceremony. Minister Sklenár thanked Col Császár for his leadership of the Centre of Excellence for five and a half years, congratulated Col Mihalovič on his new appointment, and wished him every success in taking this renowned establishment forward.

Summing up his time as Director of NATO EOD COE Trenčín, Col Róbert Császár said: “It has been an extremely active period full of significant milestones and events.” He considers the delivered NATO-accredited EOD courses, the organization of professional exhibitions and conferences, and several innovative projects, especially the use of a virtual reality training platform for EOD operators, to be his greatest achievements in that time.

In his speech, Col František Mihalovič said: “It was during the handover/takeover process that I realised how much work Colonel Császár and his team had done. All I can do is to continue his work and keep improving the activities of the NATO EOD Centre of Excellence.”

With 30 years of service in the Slovak Armed Forces, Col František Mihalovič holds a wealth of EOD experience and knowledge that he brings to the role. He previously commanded the 905th Specialist Combat Support Centre Nováky. Earlier in his military career, he served as Commander of the Engineer Battalion Sereď and Chief of Staff of the Training and Mobilisation Force Generation Base Martin. He served three ISAF tours in Afghanistan.

The North Atlantic Council (NAC) approved the accreditation of NATO EOD COE Trenčín on 28 April 2011.
