Defence Minister at MILMEDCON 2023: We are truly proud of our Defence Medical Service

Defence Minister Martin Sklenár spoke today at the Military Medicine Conference (MILMEDCON) 2023, which has been taking place at the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy Liptovský Mikuláš. The conference, aimed at discussing the latest developments in defence healthcare services, is traditionally organised by the Commander of the Slovak Defence Medical Service (DMS) and Surgeon General of the Slovak Armed Forces, Brig Gen Roman Jantoš, working in close cooperation with the Director of the Central Military Hospital - Teaching Hospital Ružomberok, Assoc Prof Róbert Rusnák MD PhD, and the Slovak Medical Society.

“The Ministry of Defence family comprises personnel from a huge number of institutions, from individual components of the Ministry and units of the Slovak Armed Forces, through to Military Forests and Estates and state-owned arms companies. The Central Military Hospital in Ružomberok as a defence healthcare provider has been one of our showcases in the long run,” the Defence Minister said, adding: “We often say that people – our soldiers are the most important asset in the Armed Forces. This is doubly true for those in military medicine, because it requires a combination of exceptionally high technical knowledge, skillset and experience.”

In addition to the latest advances in healthcare and medical technology, the conference's programme also contained lectures and panel discussions on today's geopolitical trends and goals of military medicine, including on the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the direction and needs of the Slovak Defence Medical Service (DMS) as well as on medical support to NATO's enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) in Latvia.
