Defence Minister Martin Sklenár's away-day trip to service establishments in the Upper Nitra region and Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica

Defence Minister Martin Sklenár and Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer today met with soldiers of 43 Supply Base Zemianske Kostoľany and 905 Specialised Combat Support Centre Nováky. While there, they were interested in the Units' personnel and equipment fill rates, performance of tasks, and improvements to local defence infrastructure.

While at 43 Supply Base Zemianske Kostoľany, the MOD leaders received a tour of the facilities and the CBRN labs there. In addition to standard maintenance and repair services at the base, refurbishment projects on laboratory and research facilities and local warehouses, worth some €3m, are currently underway, Minister Sklenár announced.

As part of the official programme, the MOD delegation was given a tour of 905 Specialised Combat Support Centre Nováky, including of an ammunition warehouse and a munitions testing centre. As Minister Sklenár reminded us, the mission of the Centre, which is directly subordinate to 91 Engineer Regiment Sereď, is to serve as an MOD training facility for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists and munition technicians so that they can work safely with explosives and munitions.

Following this, the top Defence officials paid a visit to Military Repair Company (VOP) Nováky, which, among others, produces and extends the service life of munitions.

The Defence Minister wrapped up his away-day trip with a visit to Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, where he delivered a lecture on 'Current Developments in the Security Landscape from the Ministry of Defence's Perspective' and took questions on pressing security issues from university students.
