The best of Forces sport recognised at the 2023 SVK Armed Forces Sports Awards

The Slovak Defence Ministry and the Dukla Military Sports Centre Banská Bystrica came together to celebrate this year's sporting achievements of Slovakia's top military athletes at the SVK Armed Forces Sports Awards Ceremony held at the Banská Bystrica State Opera on Monday 30 October 2023. Based on the 2023 Armed Forces Sports Awards results, slalom canoeist Eliška Mintálová picked up the service Sportsperson of the Year Award. The MOD was represented at the awards ceremony by Deputy Defence Minister Igor Melicher and Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko. Slovakia's top sports personalities did not miss out on the event either.

During the awards evening, Dukla's 15 most successful sports men and women received accolades in the Senior Athlete (11), Youth (3), and Coach (1) categories across a wide range of sporting disciplines. The awardees were selected in a vote by a panel of 60 Dukla coaches and employees. In his keynote speech, Deputy Defence Minister Igor Melicher turned the spotlight on the crowning efforts of the Dukla sportspeople and their coaches – these have led to both long-term and this year's sporting successes, with five Dukla athletes earning their place on Team SVK for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Delighted to receive their awards as winners in the Senior Athlete category were: Eliška Mintálová (slalom canoeing), Marianna Jágerčíková (ski mountaineering), Petra Vlhová (skiing), Taimuraz Salkazanov (wrestling), Patrik Jány (shooting), Viktória Forster (athletics), Monika Chochlíková (kickboxing and Muai Thai), Paulína Bátovská Fialková (biathlon), Gabriela Gajanová (atheltics) and Marián Jung (powerboat racing). In the Youth and Coach categories, judoka Patrícia Tománková and slalom canoe coach Peter Cibák Jr placed first and won the top gong.
