As part of their official entry into a career with the SVK military, new Junior Soldiers (JS) joined the ranks of the Slovak Armed Forces in an Oath of Allegiance ceremony at the Háj - Nicovô War Memorial in Liptovský Mikuláš on 24 November 2023.
On completion of 7 weeks of the basic military training (BMT) programme, 115 Junior Soldiers, also known as candidates for the State Service in Slovakia, passed out of BMT and swore the Oath of Allegiance, a mark of the individual's loyalty to the Slovak Republic and willingness to serve faithfully as a member of the Slovak Armed Forces, pledging to put their lives on the line to defend their Nation and its citizens. They have now joined an additional 1,100 service personnel who have been officially accepted into the Slovak Armed Forces this year.
Our modern Armed Forces are built on the solid pillars of moral duty and values, including on the legacy of the WW2 Slovak National Uprising (SNP) soldiers and other heroic warriors who fought against the Nazis on all fronts of the Second World War. For this reason, the Oath of Allegiance ceremonies have recently taken place at Slovakia's military memorial sites.
One of them is the Háj - Nicovô War Memorial. It is there that the soldiers of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, while liberating Liptovský Mikuláš, lie in rest. Also at the Háj - Nicovô memorial site is the Slovak Armed Forces Memorial dedicated to the SVK military personnel who have lost their lives on missions and operations abroad over the past 30 years.
