Ministry of Defence launches information campaign to promote Slovak National Uprising (SNP) 80th Anniversary National Event celebrations

The Ministry of Defence and the Cabinet Office along with other co-organisers have been working together to prepare the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) 80th Anniversary National Event celebrations, which, taking place in Banská Bystrica on 28-29 August 2024, will feature a rich cultural and social programme, including a spectacular Armed Forces Parade.
On Day 1 (28 August 2024) of the anniversary celebrations, the SNP Museum will open its galleries to the public for free. The Museum's programme of activities includes a column of historical vehicles driving from the SNP Memorial across the streets of Banská Bystrica with a stop in SNP Square. In the evening members of the public will be able to meet SNP veterans at the SNP Memorial.
From the morning of Day 2 (29 August 2024), public events will feature the very best of the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces. In addition, there will be information stands from ministries and other agencies under their remit, with hands-on activities for visitors to try out what they offer. Beginning at 10.00hrs, the Official SNP Memorial Wreath-Laying Ceremony will be projected on to a large LED screen for the public on site and broadcast live via Slovak public broadcaster STVR. The ceremony will be followed by speeches from distinguished guests, musical and cultural performances, and a Pass Off Parade with the Oath of Allegiance to be sworn by Junior Soldiers in the presence of their families and the public. The evening will be a blend of an Armed Forces Parade starting at 17:30hrs, a gala evening with musical performances, and a fireworks display.
As part of its information and presentation campaign to deliver most comprehensive coverage of the anniversary celebrations on its official website at MO SR, the MOD has launched a sub-website dedicated to the SNP 80th Anniversary National Event at 80. výročie SNP .
In preparation for the anniversary celebrations, the MOD has been in communication with all those co-organising the event, including with the Cabinet Office, Presidential Office, Banská Bystrica Town Council, Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Regional Authority, SNP Museum, and government ministries. The complete SNP 80th Anniversary National Event Programme is available on the new MOD sub-website.
The MOD sub-website, which is constantly being upgraded, offers useful information on security measures at the event, changes to the public transport schedule during the celebrations, and a map of the grounds. For media accreditation, an accreditation form is available for those who want to come and cover the events. While on site, members of the public can scan a QR code to access the event details and the MOD sub-website.
The main organiser of the SNP 80th Anniversary National Event in Banská Bystrica is the Ministry of Defence. For the MOD, the SNP leaves a remarkably powerful legacy, which is why all official SNP 80th Anniversary commemorations across Slovakia throughout 2024 have been taking place under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Robert Kaliňák.
