Director General of the MOD Personnel and Social Welfare Branch Martin Rímeš and Chair of the Slovak Towns and Municipalities Association (ZMOS) Jozef Božik signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in Supporting and Encouraging Advancement of Military Themed Training and Sporting Activities in Primary Schools'.
The professional collaboration between the MOD and the ZMOS is expected to facilitate more purposeful interaction between the Armed Forces and primary schools through education programmes, workshops, military themed training and sporting activities to develop pupils' physical fitness, teamwork, and basic life protection skills.
Summing up his thoughts on Armed Forces activities in schools, Director General of the MOD Personnel and Social Welfare Branch Martin Rímeš said: “Our main goal is to restore the meaningfulness of training content in schools so that students can try and test their physical fitness, movement and logical thinking skills. Through experiential games, we want to involve children in activities so that as many of them as possible can try out something new – something they do not encounter in regular lessons at school. While encouraging playful learning, we will introduce them to the Armed Services environment and the specifics of the military profession in a way unfamiliar to them.”
A new 'Armed Forces Activities in Schools' pilot project is underway in a primary school in Partizánske, with teachers from the surrounding primary schools as observers. Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko will translate the results of the pilot project into plans for the Slovak Armed Forces' engagement with schools across all regions in Slovakia.
