NATO has enhanced its presence in the eastern part of the Alliance, with four multinational battlegroups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. These battlegroups, led by the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and the United States respectively, are multinational, and combat-ready, demonstrating the strength of the transatlantic bond. Their presence makes clear that an attack on one Ally will be considered an attack on the whole Alliance. NATO’s battlegroups form part of the biggest reinforcement of NATO’s collective defence in a generation.
The Slovak Republic commented on the deployment of the Slovak Armed Forces within the framework of eFP by Resolution of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 1164 on the proposal to send members of the Slovak Armed Forces within NATO's Enhanced Advance Presence to the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Poland.
Main tasks within eFP:
- Demonstrate the readiness of NATO member states to respond to potential security threats in accordance with Art. 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty;
- NSE members to provide continuous support of members of the Slovak Armed Forces in the area of personnel, operational, logistic, financial, CIS and medical (via ROLE 1);
- The members of the artillery battery, repair and transport platoon and ROLE 1 perform their tasks in accordance with the training plan;
- Members of the military police perform their tasks in cooperation with the local police for the benefit of members of the Slovak Armed Forces in eFP.
In total, 135 professional soldiers of the Slovak Armed Forces.
